The isolator (unidirectional line) is one of the non-reciprocal microwave components. Whereas a microwave travelling in the forward direction is subject to practically no attenuation, a wave travelling in the reverse direction is strongly absorbed. This component functions according to the field displacement law and is preferred for the decoupling of the oscillator from the rest of the measurement circuit.
