The slide screw transformer is used for matching components with different impedances. It consists of a slotted waveguide, into which a moveable pin protrudes. The metallic pin represents an almost reactive load for the microwave circuit. Matching for any complex load in terms of magnitude and phase can be achieved by adjusting the penetration depth and position of the pin in the waveguide. The function of the slide screw transformer can be most clearly explained using the Smith chart.
Design:
Slotted line constructed of brass, nickelplated. The displacement of the pin can be read off using a vernier mm-scale. The penetration depth of the pin can be adjusted with a screw. There is an insert nut provided in the base section for mounting a support.
