A phase shift of the microwave is brought about using a dielectric vane, which can be moved inside the waveguide. The magnitude of the phase shift is dependent on the frequency and the position of the vane. The calibration of the phase shifter is principally frequency dependent and can be carried out using the slotted measuring line and a moveable short.
